Zumba Toning takes the original Zumba dance-fitness class to the next level utilizing an innovative muscle training system involving the use of light weight toning sticks. This dynamic program was designed to emphasize muscle work along with rhythms. This program is safe and effective, re-defining total body workout! Zumba Toning creates the same party atmosphere as every other Zumba class.  Zumba Toning is fun, different, challenging and effective. It provides a new fun twist for weighted activity. 

What Is a Toning Stick?

The Toning Sticks are hollow and filled with sand-like material that shifts inside the sticks as you shake them, lift them etc. It is important that the toning sticks are used in a controlled environment. Zumba sticks take some getting used to.  They are meant to be fun however, they are NOT a toy. As part of the Zumba Toning program, you will learn how to use the Toning Sticks to enhance your workout!

Who are Weighted Workouts For?

Light weights (1 ½ pounds) provide some resistance when used with Zumba rhythms as part of a cardio conditioning and muscle endurance training. Any healthy individual without a known history of cardio-respiratory conditions, hypertension or joint injury many safely participate in a weighted workout.

If you have participated in at least 5 regular Zumba Fitness classes prior to joining the Zumba Toning Program?

Please remember to pace yourself according to your new fitness and toning level. 

Move, Groove and Attitude

It takes your body time to get used to the core latin rhythms such as Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Flamenco and Belly Dance. It is common in Zumba for you to get used to the dance steps and fitness movements within three classes.

First Class- Focusing on the moves as they are new!
Second Class- Groove- getting the groove of these new movements!
Third Class- By the third class you are ready to rock and roll! Feeling the Latin rhythms and becoming familiar with the Latin core workout! 

How Zumba Toning Works?

 

Main Body Workout Techniques:

The main portion of the workout includes four different training modalities, with and without weights, types of training based on a 60 minute class. 

Specific Rhythms

Incorporated the Latin rhythms using Zumba toning sticks 

Circuit

You will alternate movements using weights and some movements without weights. The movements without weights are more freestyle flowing like all the Zumba rhythms. The weighted movements are more controlled.  This combination of movement builds in a natural break period for the muscles while keeping the heart rate elevated to increase cardio and make you Happy Shiny People! 

Instructors Choice

In true Zumba flavor the last cardio song is you or the Instructors Choice. This is where I welcome all members to submit their favorite song. This song will be performed without weights. The purpose is to loosen up the muscles and just have fun! In true Zumba fashion!!! 

Body Isolation

Typically referred to as a Cool Down.  This song is generally slow and is not dance oriented. The goal is to use controlled, isolated movements which helps to decrease the heart rate level and target muscles that were used throughout the workout session 

Prerequisite

It is mandatory that all participants wanting to partake in the Zumba Toning Program take at least five regular Zumba Fitness classes. It is recommended to do so because any individuals new to the Zumba Fitness workouts should be familiar with the basic Zumba rhythms and corresponding muscle movements before the toning sticks can be introduced.
